Amigurumi Eeyore free crochet pattern

This Amigurumi Eeyore free crochet pattern is very easy to follow and beginner friendly. It can be made in a couple of hours, so it’s the pattern for a last minute gift. I have used worsted weight yarn and the finished object would be perfect as a small toy. You can use dk weight yarn to make it smaller and use it as a keychain or bag charm.

If you find this Amigurumi Eeyore cute, but don’t know who it is. Here is a short background 🙂 Eeyore is a character who’s a donkey in the famous collection of stories of Winnie the Pooh. You can read more HERE. I think many of us are more familiar with the cartoon series and love it just like me. It’s one of my favourite childhood TV shows 🙂 Eeyore is Pooh Bear’s friend.

In this pattern, you will learn a new crochet technique called Tapestry crochet. It’s a wonderful technique to work with 2 colours in the same round where you carry the unused yarn strand underneath each stitch while working with the other colour. Doesn’t that sound interesting ? You can watch video HERE where I demonstrate tapestry crochet in a very clear way.
Let’s see how it’s made 🙂

Supplies:

  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn in dark gray and light gray color.
  • Small amount of black yarn for facial details and embroidering the eyes/Plastic safety eyes
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • Large eye tapestry needle and scissors
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • Ch – chain
  • MC – Magic Circle
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – 2 sc in the specified stitch
  • dec – sc2tog in the specified stitches
  • [Number] – Stitch count at the end of the round

Pattern Notes:

  • This project is made with worsted weight yarn, however there is no gauge required, so your can use any yarn with a suitable hook.
  • A well stuff body and head prevent the dreadful wobbly head.
  • WARNING: Embroider the eyes if using it as a toy for babies. French knots work great. Plastic safely eyes can be a choking hazard.

Tips before you start:

  • Amigurumi always looks better when the stitches are tighter, also prevents the stuffing from poking out. Use 1 size smaller hook than your yarn calls for.
  • The look of the Amigurumi finished object depends a lot on how you stuff it. Don’t be impatient and stuff too much in one go. Do it in bits.
  • Always pin the body parts together before you start sewing. Be it the limbs or the eyes, mouth, ears, antlers, horns, wings etc. Doesn’t matter even if they are really small parts, pinning them helps. They always turn out better when you do this. I say this from personal experience. 🙂
