Easy knitted stars free pattern
You can make many of them and string them together into a garland or a star bunting. A star bunting on the mantle, how cool would that look? 🙂 Last December I made a garland of tiny sweaters and used it to decorate my bub’s room.

- Stitch markers (Optional)
- Large Tapestry needle and scissors
Abbreviations:
- CO – cast on
- Sl – slip from left to right needle
- K – knit
- YO – yarn over
- dpns – Double pointed knitting needles
Pattern Notes:
- Watch the video HERE on how to do a gapless join while knitting in the round. This easy knitted stars free pattern is made in the round.
- The 2 sides of the star are knitted separately and then sewn together. HERE is a video demonstrating seaming the 2 sides together.
- Central double decrease (CDD) technique is used to decrease stitches.
- Stitch markers are useful while decreasing stitches , specially if you are a beginner. You can find a helpful tutorial to make your own HERE.
- Insert tapestry needle into the corner peaks and pull lightly to make them pointy.
- Do not over stuff the star, otherwise it won’t have a prominent peak and valley effect to it. Insert a tapestry needle into the corner peaks and pull lightly to make them pointy.
Pattern:
Cut yarn and use tapestry needle to sew through each of the 10 stitches and slip them off of all three dpns and cinch the hole shut, sew the centre of the star securely and weave in the tail on the wrong side.
Stuffing the stars – 2 ways
- From the sides – Go ahead and cinch the hole shut at the centre for both pieces.
- From the centre. Do not cinch the hole shut for the second piece as we will be inserting stuffing in through that opening.
After you’ve made both sides of the star, we need to sew them together. Put the wrong sides together and sew the sides together, and hide the tail inside. HERE is a video demonstrating how to sew them together neatly. I tired stuffing from the side initially.
Insert the needles back and forth through the centre a few times.
