When I first made Mr. Piggie, I used worsted weight yarn and I had a certain size of the finished object in mind, but while making Ms. Piggie I used light weight yarn and the finished toy turned out way smaller that I’d expected. So

Design Inspiration :

Sometime ago, a friend of mine saw the Amigurumi Pig I’d made and wanted me to make for his friend who had had a baby. That was my first attempt at making an Amigurumi pig and it turned out great. I’d used worsted weight yarn (4-Medium) for that project. But when I got the custom order I was out of that yarn and it wasn’t in stock at my nearest store.  I liked the light weight yarn (3-Light) that was available in pink colour and decided to use it for the project. But when I used the original Amigurumi pig pattern with this yarn, the pig turned out to be quite small and that was not what I had in mind for the custom order. So I had to redesign the pattern to suit this light weight yarn. And since the had

Pattern Notes:

  • This project is made with light weigh yarn (3- Light), however there is no gauge required, so your can use any yarn with a suitable hook.
  • Ms. Piggie looks good when the stitches are tighter, so I’d recommend using 1 or 2 smaller size crochet hook that what your yarn calls for.
  • WARNING: Embroider the eyes if using it as a toy for babies. French knots work great. Plastic safely eyes can be a choking hazard. If you want to add a face to the broccoli, I’d recommend French knots using thin black yarn/thread.

Generic Amigurumi Tips:

  • Amigurumi always looks better when the stitches are tighter, this also prevents the stuffing from poking out. Use 1 or 2 sizes smaller hook than your yarn calls for.
  • The look of the Amigurumi finished object depends a lot on how you stuff it. Don’t be impatient and stuff too much in one go. Do it in bits.
  • Always pin the body parts together before you start sewing. Be it the limbs or the eyes, mouth, ears, antlers, horns, wings etc. Doesn’t matter even if they are really small parts, pinning them helps. They always turn out better when you do this. I say this from personal experience. 🙂
