When you want a new sewing machine...

When I was in India, I had a Singer sewing machine (it actually was my mum’s , she didn’t use it so she’s given it to me) and I used to use it for small sewing projects and make linings for my crochet bags and purses,

In 2013 when we moved to Toronto, I had to leave it behind as it was a 220V machine and honestly carrying a sewing machine to the other side of the world wasn’t a priority at that time. So the first chance I got in Toronto , I bought the brother LS2000 sewing machine. It was a basic sewing machine which only had 2 kinds of stitches , the straight stitch and the zig-zag stitch. At that time, it was all I wanted and the price on the machine made it the perfect choice. In 2015 when we moved to Vancouver new place, a new job and in general life took over and I didn’t find time to sew.

Fast forward to mid 2019, I’d started watching a lot of YouTube videos on sewing and they inspired me to restart sewing.

I had, been wanting to buy a family passport holder for us for a long time now and if you have followed me long enough, you’ll probably know that I’d always choose to make it myself/buy handmade products over ready-made. So I decided to look for a handmade business which sells fabric passport holders and did find one on Instagram, however the deal fell through at the last minute and instead I decided to make one myself.

This also gave me an idea to upgrade my sewing machine as now I was fascinated by all the decorative stitches people used in their projects on YouTube. I was also interested in improving the quality of my sewing and felt the features in an advanced machine would help me with that. 😀 But I was also a tad bit guilty about buying a new (and expensive) sewing machine when I already had a perfectly working sewing machine. But it was like this bug in my head that wasn’t letting me sleep. So I told myself that if I can sell the old sewing machine first for a decent price , I’ll buy a new one. I placed an ad on Facebook marketplace the next day and to my surprise I got unbelievable number of offers. To be precise, 178 offers 😀 The old machine was gone the same day and now I didn’t have a sewing machine 😀 so off I go to Amazon to look for sewing machines.

Since I was familiar with the Brother sewing machine brand already, I chose Brother HC1850 and ordered it on Amazon.

It comes with a lot of great features which my old machine didn’t have, but the speed control is my favorite. It has helped me improve the quality of the final product as they look more professional now. It has many decorative stitches and I can’t wait to use them all.
