Knitting project bag | Drawstring knitting project bag from scrap fabric

I had some scrap fabric left from one of my previous quilt projects from 2015. I have moved houses thrice since then and that fabric has moved with me every single time and I’m actually thankful I didn’t get rid of it, or I wouldn’t have this post today.
I always used a reusable cloth bag before to carry my knitting projects. As I’ve already mentioned in some of my previous posts I take the train to work, if I manage to find a seat I knit while I commute, So that’s what prompted me to make this as it would even look good when I take it outdoors.
I have seen a few zipper bags which ppl use for Knitting, but I wanted a drawstring bag with a small handle which I can use to have around my wrist in case I’m knitting in the train. I have watched quite a few videos of the Crafty Gemini on YouTube and she has just the bag tutorial for me.
I followed her knitting project bag tutorial to make this. As I wanted to make use of my scrap fabric, I have improvised it a bit.
Go watch this video if you want to make one too
I have recorded the process of my bag below as I really enjoy looking back at all my old posts and projects.
I had 5″x5″ squares from when I had previously planned to make a square pieces quilt. I sewed them all together as 2 separate pieces for the front and back of the bag.

Then joined the two pieces together for the base of the bag.

After joining the two pieces, I made the slot for the drawstring to go through on the two shorter edges(which will be the top of the bag). I made a 1/8″ fold and hemmed the raw edges on both the top front and top back. Then made another 1″ fold and sewed this fold close to give it a tube shape for the drawstring to pass through.
Again, Go watch Vanessa’s video HERE it’s really easy

I’ve used French seams to sew the sides of the bag, they look better.

The 2 sides for the bag.

Now I have a beautiful knitting bag which has received quite a few complements from people ❤️
How do you carry your Knitting projects around?
Till I post again!
