Amigurumi bee free crochet pattern

Learn to make this squishy and cuddly Amigurumi bee using the Amigurumi bee free crochet pattern. It’s made using worsted weight yarn and is the perfect size for a cuddler toy. I’ve made it with thinner dk/sport weight yarn too and it makes an equally cute little version of this bee. As much as I love making Amigurumi, sewing all the parts of Amigurumi together is something I try to escape. I know it’s not possible to completely avoid sewing, but I like it keep it to minimum. So if you are like me I promise that this Amigurumi bee free crochet pattern won’t disappoint you. Majority of this bee is made in one piece. We start with the legs, then make the body in continuous rounds, followed by the neck and the head. The antennae , arms and wings are crocheted separately and sewn to the main body.

So let’s take a look at the Amigurumi bee free crochet pattern.

Supplies:

  • Any thickness yarn in yellow and black. I have used Red Heart comfort in Bright Yellow and Black
  • Small amount of white fleece
  • Dk weight or black embroidery floss for facial features
  • Plastic safety eyes
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Large eye tapestry needle and scissors
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • Ch – chain
  • MC – Magic Circle
  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – 2 single crochet in the specified stitch (this is an increase)
  • [Number] – Stitch count at the end of the round

Pattern Notes:

  • This project is made with worsted weight yarn, however there is no gauge required, so your can use any yarn with a suitable hook.
  • A well stuff body and head prevent the dreadful wobbly head.
  • WARNING: Embroider the eyes if using it as a toy for babies. French knots work great. Plastic safely eyes can be a choking hazard.

Tips before you start:

  • Amigurumi always looks better when the stitches are tighter, this also prevents the stuffing from poking out. Use 1 size smaller hook than your yarn calls for.
  • The look of the Amigurumi finished object depends a lot on how you stuff it. Don’t be impatient and stuff too much in one go. Do it in bits.
  • Always pin the body parts together before you start sewing. Be it the limbs or the eyes, mouth, ears, antlers, horns, wings etc. Doesn’t matter even if they are really small parts, pinning them helps. They always turn out better when you do this. I say this from personal experience. 🙂

Finishing:
Preparing the eyes:
Cut an oval(more rounded) piece of white fleece/felt fabric and make a hole in it to fit the safety eyes. Place the eyes between R38-39. The eyes need to be 3-5 stitches apart horizontally.

Embroider the eyebrows 3 rows above the eyes and the mouth at an angle below the eyes to give it that expression.

Preparing the wings:

Sew the 2 wings together first and then sew them to the back of the bee between R29-R30.

Pin the arms to make sure they are symmetrical and sew them on to the body. Sew them on R27 of the body.

Pin the antennae to make sure they are symmetrical and sew them on to the head. Sew them between R43-44 of the head.
