Crochet potholders free pattern:The Practical Potholders
Learn to make your own potholders using this crochet potholders free pattern. It’s a simple and super quick project. If you are looking for something to work up in a jiff, then this Crochet potholders free pattern is perfect. These crochet potholders add a great handmade touch to your kitchen decor. Crochet potholders make the most practical handmade gifts to anyone. That’s why I named them “The Practical Potholders”. You can make these crochet potholders large or small, to match your need. I’ve made them in 2 different sizes myself as I like to use small ones as hotpads. The pattern provided instructions for different sizes, so you can customize them for the size you want.

Design Inspiration:

One can never have enough Potholders.. right? At least I can’t. I’m constantly using them in the kitchen and throwing them in the washer. I’d just finished designing the “10 minute crochet coasters free pattern” and was also looking for something new to work on. So instead of buying new potholders, I decided to make my own and found my next project. Being a new mom, I lean more towards simple and quick projects these days as I get to crochet only during bub’s naptime. 🙂

Supplies:

  • Small amount of any cotton yarn. I’ve used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Hot Green and some unbranded left over cotton yarn in other colours
  • 5mm crochet hook or a suitable hook for your yarn
  • Large eye tapestry needle and scissors

Abbreviations:

  • Ch – chain
  • Sl St – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet

Pattern Notes:

  • Ch2 in the beginning of each round is the equivalent of a dc. I prefer to ch2 as ch3 feels a bit too tall for a dc.
  • This pattern starts with a specified number of chains and a foundation row, then continues with a single row repeat pattern.
  • Mark the turning chain with a stitch marker to find it easily when you have to work a stitch in it. As a beginner I used to do that all the time and it was a life saver.
  • If you want you can start with a Single Crochet Foundation Chain instead of foundation chains, which gives the crochet potholders a sturdier base edge. This is specially helpful if aren’t sure what size you want your crochet potholder to be before you start.

Making the loop:

Ch 10 and sl st into the same place where you started and fasten off. This makes the loop.

Weave in the ends and they’re done.
